The Medic is a support unit, able to heal allied biological units and debuff negative effects. It provides Terran infantry with much needed lasting power even when facing stronger enemy units.
A Medic and Marine army (affectionately known as M&M's) is a force to be reckoned with, and may often be used even in the late stages of the game, against much higher tech units.
Lore
The Medics of the United Earth Directorate follow a time-honored tradition of selflessly marching into combat zones to aid their injured brethren. These fearless women, aided only by protective shielding, are highly skilled healers capable of restoring the health and vitality of wounded soldiers. Medics can even cure various Zerg infestations such as Parasite or Ensnare.
The Medic's primary function is to support combat units by healing Terran infantry units. The Medic's secondary role is to remove harmful special abilities and occasionally harass the enemy with Optic Flares.

Upgrades
StarCraft 2
The Medic's StarCraft 2 model
The
Medic was initially in the game, and was very similar to its SC1 version. However, Blizzard felt that it's lack of mobility hindered the
Reapers, as the medics could not keep up with these fast moving, terrain hopping units, and could not be expected to provide reliable healing support during base raids. This gave rise to its replacement: a flying healing unit, the
Medivac.
