The StarCraft 2 beta has finally been launched!
Blizzard wrote:The Koprulu sector rings once more with the sounds of battle, for the public beta test of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has officially begun!Invitations to participate in the beta test are now being delivered. As with previous Blizzard Entertainment titles, the beta-test process for StarCraft II will occur in phases. In each phase, we will be selecting players who meet specific criteria and who have opted in via their Battle.net accounts.
Players who have been invited to participate in the beta test will need to have a Battle.net account. For more information on the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test, please read the FAQ
http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?to ... 0&sid=5000 and our recent media alert.
If you didn't receive a beta test invite, don't worry -- it's possible that you'll be added in a later phase. Keep an eye on the email address associated with your Battle.net account, and stay tuned to
http://www.StarCraft2.com for further updates.
Emails have so far been sent out to
some of the first-wave key recipients, but not all. If you have been selected for the beta SC2 will be available for download on battle.net regardless of any email, so log in and check to make sure.
The computer requirements are:
Quote:PC Minimum Requirements:
Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7
2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7
128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card
1024×768 minimum display resolution
4 GB free hard space (Beta)
Broadband connection
From SC2Pod so far the staff got keys, but hopefully we'll get more to hand out to you guys soon. We'll be keeping you updated with screenshots, videos and Q&As etc in the meantime.
I'll be updating the
misc gallery during installation and the first login. There is also a
thread in the forum with links to streams of people playing live.
If you're in the beta feel free to add all SC2Pod peeps as friends (we'll be updating the list during the day):
- shadowie.pod (EU)
- Tiger.pod (US)
- Sixen.sixen (US)
- undifty.pod (EU)
I recorded a short video showing some
Brood Lord gameplay. The Brood Lord can
charge up two
Broodlings while idle and fire them at the same time when ordered to attack. After that, one Broodling is fired at a time, which seems to favor quick hit and retreat attacks.

If you can't see it, I doubt it'll work for you, (and if it does work I'm sure you won't be able to actually log in and play) but here it is:
https://us.battle.net/account/managemen ... atform=win
(that's for my language and region, etc. so if you get it via a different region it still might not work)

that's what it's saying on starcraft 2 armory. i'm guessing if it's still gone by the release, it'll be back in the expansions, but still... super gay.

I was so looking forward to using the Lurker!! AGH! T_T
#16 Aegis Runestone
I know, Feb, 9th. But maybe this means they'll bring back the lurkers back after some fixes or something.
Edit: sorry for double-post. Got too excited.

And Lurkers *will* be back in the game. I am employing a telepathic compulsion. They will be back.

why do you think they would discriminate? "ummm ok all the people with hotmail get invited, but no gmail users allowed". doesn't seem too likely

ha! i just don't understand why anyone would pay hundreds or thousands of extra dollars for an apple logo and a closed source, costly linux distro. and you have to PAY for your tech support?! WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
anyhoo..
apples are the nintendo wii of personal computers.

Yay! Also, I read on SC2 Armory that the Lurker Den was removed TEMPORARILY! Only temporarily! That means, if the Lurker Den is only gone for a little while, then the Lurkers are too.

Thats the irony.
I am not mad, just laughing at the stuff they are doing. I understand it is difficult to get "all good" players on beta, but I had to laugh when a player said "dude you need more miners" and the other said "dude I have seven" 10 minutes into the game lol.
He thought 7 miners was enough

So, those are my thoughts on workers.
#44 Frosty
ive seen some all in builds on livestreams... one i remember being a protoss, outnumbering a terran by like 3-1 in units from just outmining one base almost
and i watched a 1 base zerg tech to ultras so fast.. where again, minerals almost gone
as for 1 per mineral patch.. well some games ive watched, some people produce workers until the main base minerals have depleted... some stop when theres a very large amount and has a big enough income to just pump units
seems zerg can have a very large amount of drones in sc2.. and dont need AS many hatcheries as brood war because the queen spawn larvae thing is insane lol
of course, ive been watching live streams i havent played myself.. so these are my observations purely

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330
If that latter can, please tell me!I have to call Dell immediately and cancel my order and rebuy my new laptop with the Mobile Radeon incase I havent bought my Alienwarecomp by the release (which I am assuming at this point is 6monthsmax)
#48 AUDIE
I'd agree with that because then it would be about 18-24 miners per entire mineral patch.
Which would be about equal to SC/BW
As for as gas goes, I'd say three is still fine. You just need a lot more of it now. So early gas is a must.
Units are definitely different. It's going to be very weird for me to play SC2.
It is truly different from SC/BW in many ways. Especially the new damage system.

It's a Desktop, and packs quite a punch - can't wait to get to play it.
I gave up my beta dreams, so instead, I'm watching the streams and look at the games there. Noticed a few wierd stuff with the game. Amongst these things, Sentry has a faux portrait, depicting the previous model, the Nullifier.
I'm also a little disappointed that it seems you cannot choose for yourself which of the Races' tracks you want playing in the background, and that there isn't a quick, easy way to turn off the music if you need it off.
But other than a couple of minor errors, I see that it's a completely new way of playing starcraft that I'm content with.
Wishing you guys a great beta!
EDIT: I'd also be much obliged if you guys with beta updated the wiki with information regarding units, buildings and abilities. However, if you're already working on it, I must thank you that you're remembering the community and not only playing to satisfy your own twisted needs.
#50 Tiger0211
I guess you can't, but I figured it'd just do one for the race that you're playing as, which I'm fine with. (I usually have it off, so I'm not 100% sure what it does)
Quick as in one button press? No. Quick as in go to the options menu and uncheck a box? Yes. Plenty easy for me.
Yes, I've been working on it. I've probably got about half of the Zerg race done. There's a lot of new info, and without cheats or a map editor it's not trivial to gather it all. I just played a long game vs the computer to get the whole Zerg tech tree, (I don't just mean the tech tree table thing, but where I got every unit and building so I could see what all the stats, abilities, upgrades, etc. are) which upon viewing the replay should give me all the info I need to finish updating the Zerg; once I'm done with that I'll do it again for Terran and Protoss. I'm hoping to get a lot of that done over the weekend.
In the mean time, some other fan sites have already updated their unit databases for the beta, so if you're itching to see what's what now, check one of 'em out (like SC2Armory).
#51 Tiger0211
I'll do Terran next.
#52 eLFootman
could you upload some beta replays afterwards? pls!!
my gf arrives from brasil in a couple of hours, so I'm sure I'll do a terran tonight
#53 AUDIE
Yes, yes,
I am sad to see the lack of replays being posted on this site. sclegacy has already created a livestream (great idea) and has a sc2 beta chat going while they stream.
Lets play catch up!

Protoss might wait til tomorrow. I think I've had enough updating for one day.
I'll check, but I believe it's for friendly units only. IIRC it basically gives the Sentry an aura that raises armor (not exactly, but the same effect: reduced incoming damage for all friendly units within a radius of you).
#56 Tiger0211
All three races are now updated to have the info from the beta.
#57 shadowie
Awesome
#58 Tiger0211
Well, I've got one in another replay. I'll see it there.
Edit: got it
#59 Brandonsc2
#60 Tiger0211
It reduces incoming ranged damage by 2. And (in answer to a question somewhere) the tooltip specifically says "friendly", so I'm pretty sure it's only for friendly, and not like Dark Swarm (which was pretty similar, but for all units in the area).
