Update: Blizzard has informed us that map editor in beta and system specs are 100% speculation at this point, nothing official.StarCraftWire.net has posted info from the first Blizzard fansite summit in China. The information is all very interesting, I suggest you
go there and read it, but here are some highlights:
Some dude wrote:1. Beta will include map editor, this is for sure, but we don't know if the editor has some limitation to it.
4. Beta will only have multiplayer part, no single player campaign content. You need to connect with Battle.net even if you want to player with the AI.
6. Insane AI will cheat, their
resources gathering rate will be twice as fast as normal. Other AI's will not cheat.
7. Beta will have Battle.net Ladder.
10. Mainstream dual core processor, +2G memory, +9800GT and the like will be required in order to set the graphics to medium.
Unfortunately, though the Chinese Blizzard reps confirmed the map editor in the beta,
Xordiah said that they are currently not promising the map editor in the beta, and says,
Xordiah wrote:Most likely not in the first phase of beta won't promise anything for later phases, since we generally don't promise anything, but more likely ^^

2-i dont like that they have set the system requerment a little bit too high just for medium!
Dual Core
2GB RAM
9800 GT 512+
just for medium setting when they said they are using pixel shader 2.0? are we crazy or what?
personaly i really dont care i have
Quad Core 3.0Ghz
4Gb ram 1066
Radeon 4850 Overcloacked 512 i could play in maximum easy but i thought Blizzard was gona have system Requrnts like those
Dual Core 2GHZ
1GB Ram
9600 GT 512+
maybe its just for the beta right now the system specs a little high i hope they will lower them just so with those told you could play in Maximum setting in resolution 1280x1024 or 1440x800, that would be the best. on the other hand those hardware are very chip in our days especially if you buy AMD Phenom 2 x4 and Radeon 4850 those are killing compination!

They haven't announced official minimum or recommended specs, (the quote in the article specifically says that's for medium) and they'll probably want plenty of participants around the minimum to check just what the requirements ought to be for the final release. So I'd say you've still got a shot at it.
To be honest, the numbers they quoted really don't seem right, not even for a beta. Maybe there was some error in translation or the Blizz rep slipped up and those are really the stats for running it on high.

im sad for you, the only thing you won't have is the grafic card
#12 begebies13
Don't be sad, my superclocked 8800 GT should be more than enough to play on medium-high settings. In any case it's better than the 9800GT, and if I ever want more power I could just get a second one in SLI.

I'm sad for myself to. I have to agree with Tiger though. I think those specs are quite high for the medium line for the graphics. I hope there was an error in that because if thats the minimuim, then you'll need a modern day 300 dollar graphics card to play on highest setting and thats only a MAYBE.
I'll be getting a graphics card soon. I just need to figure out which one is the best. Right now I am leaning towards an nvidia 285. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
#15 begebies13
Yeah that's what I meant. It will run faster on the same settings.
EDIT: BTW here's a link to a good site for ratings of graphics cards, processors etc., in case anyone's interested:

In English it's Run. Or you can press Window key+R to open the Run menu.
Or you can do the Beta Profile thing and then view it in your b.net 2.0 account online.
